Xerox 1020

March 1983: Xerox launches their marathon model 1020.

The Xerox 1020 was designed in Japan by Fuji Xerox, and assembled at Mitcheldean. The copier had five contrast settings for colored or problem originals. Warm-up time for the 1020 was only 35 seconds. First copy out after 7 seconds. The 1020 produced 11 copies per minute.

These were great little boxes to work on: just keep the drum polished, the dustproofing glass underneath the fiber-optics lens clean and avoid touching the heat lamp when replacing the burned out one, they ran really well and produced unexpectedly good copies. They were kind of the “little brother” to the 1035.
